Everything you need to know if you’ve been considering going into project management
Are you considering a career in project management, but want to know what you can expect?
There are lots of positives to having a project management career, but there are also some real challenges.
Let’s talk about what some of those pros and cons are!
PRO: Improves Lots of Skills
As a project manager, you need to have such a wide range of skills that are constantly being improved.
For example, you need to communicate with people daily. It’s impossible to be a project manager and not improve your communication skills a little bit every day!
Project management also pushes you to maintain a positive mindset and attitude. There are so many small hurdles and challenges that will pop up, but if you can be resilient and become really good at problem-solving, your projects will truly be successful. Plus, these are skills that can be readily applied to other areas of your life.
On top of that, you’ll also see improvement in negotiation skills, presentation skills, and budget and risk management.
Every skill you need to be a great project manager is a skill that will not only serve your projects well, but will serve you well in other aspects of your life.
CHALLENGE: Intense Responsibility
Every job comes with a certain level of responsibility, but in Project Management there are times when you really do have a lot on your plate.
This is not a negative thing but can be a challenge. However, it’s a challenge that will force you to grow and strive to do the best you can do because you truly care about the project’s success.
The more projects you run, the better you’ll be at handling that responsibility and the more you’ll learn from previous projects.
