Things I Wish I Could Tell EVERY Project Manager
Wouldn’t it be great if you could get all the best, tried and true project management tips from someone who’s got experience working with different companies and different industries?
If you’re a new project manager, the BEST thing you can do for yourself is learn from people who have been managing projects for years. I’m about to share with you the top tips that I think EVERY project manager needs to know based on my 20+ years working in project management and as a consultant.
Don’t Avoid Conflict
Sometimes, it can be difficult to address conflict… But this is a reality of project management that you just can’t avoid.
When it comes to solving conflict, you need to face it head-on and be an active listener. Really try to understand where people are coming from and the root of the problem so you can address it.
Learn From the Past
What worked well on previous projects you’ve run? What didn’t work well? It’s always important to reflect and adjust your approach based on what you’ve learned AND stick to your guns on what must be done.
Stay On Top of Documentation
One of the major responsibilities of a project manager is to ensure they have good documentation and stay organized.
Good documentation eliminates assumptions, keeps people on track, and ensures that everyone understands what they’re expected to deliver on and what they agreed to.
