How to build your communication skills as a project manager!
The art of communication is an essential skill to be successful in project management. So, how do Project Managers communicate effectively to your team?
This is one of the most important project management skills, which is why you need to ensure you’re constantly improving your communication. Here are a few tips for you when it comes to communicating with your project team.
Set Clear Expectations
Part of communication (even in our personal lives) is that when we’re not clear with expectations, things get confusing.
Setting clear expectations ensures that everything gets done that needs to get done. So, what are some of those expectations?
There are behavioural expectations that you need to communicate about how you expect your team to act with each other. Then, there are expectations about your action plan and tasks.
These are all aspects of a project that make it successful and bring your team together as one working unit. So, it’s really important to be crystal clear on exactly what you need your team to do.
Vision & Goals
Project Managers need to share the project vision and goals. Really good communication means people understand the WHY of the project.
It’s not just about ensuring people understand their marching orders. For them to truly understand the project, they also need to understand WHY they are doing it. And it’s your role as a project manager to ensure they are clear on that.
