The Essentials You Need to Know
Feeling overwhelmed as a newbie project manager? Not to worry! With some knowledge of the essentials, you’ll soon be headed down the path towards project management excellence.
Let’s dive into some things you absolutely need to know.
Understanding your marching orders
When you’re assigned a project, the information you’re given will often be extremely high level. So whether you’re brand new or a seasoned PM, understanding your marching orders is the first thing you need to do.
Spend some time looking at the information you’ve been given to figure out what’s in, what’s out, and what the project milestones will be. That will help you ensure everyone is on the same page about where the project is headed.
What happens if you fail to do this? Well just like the saying ‘garbage in, garbage out,’ not getting clear on your marching orders will lead to you struggling to deliver on your end result.
Other project essentials you need to know
There are several other key things you need to know about to make it as a new project manager, and I want to make sure I explain them properly, so I made a video diving into:
- Why confirming expectations is key (and how to make that happen)
- The importance of being confident (even when you’re nervous as heck)
- How to prioritize and manage a project schedule to ensure success
- That project management need not be complicated (less is often more)
- How crucial it is to have a centralized project hub
- That delegation and clear communication are key (and how to leverage them for project success)
