A few things you need to think about before your virtual introduction
Do you need to introduce yourself at a virtual team meeting? This may sound like it’s simple to do, but you have to be intentional by putting some thought into it ahead of time.
I’m going to share with you a few tips that will highlight what you need to be thinking about in order to give the best introduction possible at a virtual meeting.
Know what you’re going to say
It might be helpful to think through your introduction ahead of time. You’ll want to keep it to the point, clear and concise, and limit it to 30-60 seconds.
Other than that, feel free to make it a little interesting! A great way to make good connections is to go beyond just saying your job title and name. Try to add a little detail about yourself, if you can, that is still relevant and professional but makes your introduction slightly unique.
Body language
It’s best to have the camera on because your body language is really important.
How do you have good body language on a virtual meeting?
Simply sit up straight and set up your computer properly so that it’s at eye level. This makes it appear as though you’re looking at people eye-to-eye and just makes all the difference. Having good body language makes you look present and engaged, even though you may be at home!
Follow up
You might want to consider another unique step to your introduction – following up. This can be as simple as sending a short email to each individual saying what a pleasure it was to meet them and how you are looking forward to working with them.
What’s the purpose of this?
Well, it will help you make connections and get more familiar with those you’ll be working with. What a great way to start off with your new team!
Other important things to think about
I have a couple more tips that I’ve left out of this article because I’d really like to be able to explain them to you more in-depth and even give you some examples. So, if you’ll be introducing yourself virtually in the near future, make sure you head over to the short video I’ve created that will provide you with a couple additional tips and give you examples of how to structure your introduction.
