Tips for running successful projects as a project coordinator
Being a project coordinator is a great way to get your foot in the door of project management.
But there are a few skills you need to have and things you need to know if you want to be a successful project coordinator.
Here are some tips for being an effective project coordinator.
1. Learn project management concepts
As a coordinator, you need a clear idea of project management terminology and concepts.
You’ll need to know the answers to questions like:
- What is scope creep?
- What is a scope statement?
- What are the stages of project management?
- And lots more.
Whether you’re running a small initiative or helping a project manager run a large project, you need to know project management concepts so that you can catch things before they fall through the cracks.
2. Prioritize time management
As a project coordinator, you’re managing a lot all at once – documentation, communication, following up. The only way to effectively manage all these aspects of your project is strong time management skills.
This is not only about managing yourself – it’s about managing your team as well.
Are they on task? Are they meeting the agreed upon due dates? When all these items are getting done through proper time management and organization, you’ll be less likely to get burnt out, meaning you’ll have a more successful project.
