Looking to get into project management? Here are the roles you should be looking for
Project management is a great career path, but it can sometimes be tricky to break into… Especially if you don’t know which entry level positions to look out for.
If you’re trying to get your foot in the door as a project manager, there are certain entry-level positions that are great steppingstones to help you get there!
1. Project Assistant
If you’re already working in an organization, becoming a project assistant is the perfect role to start your project management career path.
A project assistant helps the project manager with tasks like scheduling meetings, taking meeting notes, updating schedules, and any other administrative work that can be easily handed off to them.
This role is a great steppingstone into project management because it will really give you an idea as to what project management is all about.
2. Entry Level Risk Analyst
Project managers need to be highly aware of risks so that they can nip them in the bud before those risks derail their project. As a result, becoming a risk analyst will give you excellent experience to build on as you move towards becoming a project manager.
The risk analyst role doesn’t always correlate directly to a project team, however it will give you good insight into how projects start.
Projects typically start with business analysts and senior management. Business analysts and risk analysts will look at the strategy and potential projects, and they put the justification forward as to whether the company should do certain projects or not.
Why is this a great role to get into at a junior level?
You’re going to see the logic and reasoning behind projects, and because you’re so closely tied to that project justification, you can then easily step into a project management role.
