3 things that will change your day!
I don’t know many people that when asked the question, would you like to be more productive at work, they answer no. For many reasons we’re all interested in increasing our productivity on the job. Here are 3 things you can do immediately, for yourself, to help increase your workplace productivity.
Tip #1 Watch what you eat
Let’s face it, most of us take better care of our cars than we do of ourselves. Like a car, your body runs on fuel. If you fuel your body with good food the result is you feel better. You have more energy, and you’re ready to tackle the tasks you need to address. Think about how you feel when you’ve had fast food for lunch and then snacked on a chocolate bar around 2:30 in the afternoon. How was your energy level? I’m going to go out on a limb and say sluggish, sleepy, and unfocused – all things that can hinder your productivity. Eat well, snack well and see how much more energy you have and how much more productive you are at work.
Tip # 2 Get some sleep
Have you ever tried to focus on a task when you’re exhausted? How successful and productive were you? A Wall Street Journal article highlights a Harvard Medical School study that “estimates sleep deprivation costs US companies 63.2 billion dollars in productivity a year”. The fact is, it’s nearly impossible to operate at your most optimum levels of productivity when you can’t keep your eyes open. If you want to increase your productivity, commit to getting at least 8 hours a night sleep. Make the time to get the sleep you need.
Tip # 3 Take a break and get some Exercise
We tend to think of exercise for its many health benefits but exercise, at work, contributes to increased productivity as well. A study in the Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine concludes that people who exercise during working hours have the same or higher production levels and suffer fewer absences from work. The study goes on to suggest that there is an increased level of productivity because the same or higher level of production is achieved with fewer resources. So, take the time to do some form of exercise during your working hours. Not only will you be more productive, think of the lift in your mood after exercising.
