The most important key performance indicators for project managers
Key performance indicators, commonly known as KPIs, are a reliable way to track your progress on any project.
KPIs allow you to know what is going well and what is not going well on your project, because you’re measuring everything against the benchmark you created when you started the project.
This enables you to understand whether you’re on track, and how much course correction you need to do for aspects of the project that might not be on track.
Here are a few KPIs you need to pay attention to as a project manager.
1. Project schedule
Project managers work with the project schedule constantly, because it highlights the major milestones and activities that need to be called out and followed.
The dates on your project schedules are important KPIs to pay attention to because it will let you know what activities are due, past due, or on track. Your project schedule gives you the bigger picture to know if you’ll ultimately be able to deliver.
You also may have activities with dependencies that will be pushed out if you don’t pay attention to the dates and milestones on your project schedule. So, making a solid action plan and timeline at the beginning of the project is key for ensuring you have your project schedule set up as a reliable KPI.
