Go From Jitters to Confidence

It’s natural to feel a bit nervous when starting out as a project manager. After all, there’s a lot involved with managing a project. Luckily I have significant project experience to draw on, so I’ve got you covered.

By following a few simple strategies, you’ll soon be stepping up the project management plate with much more confidence.

Tip One: Your project sponsor is your ally

It’s vital as a new project manager to get executive support early, and to ensure your executive team is all on the same page with what they want you to deliver.

The best way to do that is by spending some one-on-one time with your sponsor to review items from your project charter and scope statement, and to confirm the ins and outs of project timing and resources.

Getting their support early will smooth the path to your project finish line, because you’ll have somewhere to turn if you need help removing roadblocks.

After all, your sponsor picked you to manage the project, so they have a vested interest in your success!

More tips for new PMs

I have several more tips that will help you ditch your project jitters, and I made a video that covers all that:

  • The motto to adopt from project day 1 to ensure you succeed
  • Why clear expectations are key and how to set them
  • One huge pitfall you need to be on guard against
  • Why not leaving anyone in the dark is so important – and how to get there
  • What not to avoid on your project, even though it may feel easier to do so

Follow me over to YouTube and we’ll keep chatting about this!
