All the basics you need to know about change management in projects!
When you’re approaching change management for the first time, you might feel like you don’t know how to handle it.
It’s important to understand change management – and how to implement it in your project successfully – because projects institute some form of change, and there’s an end user who will be receiving that change.
So, change management MUST be incorporated into your project plan – no matter what, for ALL projects!
Definition of Change Management
Change management is the discipline that guides how we prepare, equip, and support people to successfully adopt change in order to drive organizational/project success and outcomes.
Preparing for Change
The first step of any change management process is understanding the change.
You need to know:
- What is changing
- Why it’s changing
- How you want to see the change come together
You’ll want to also do a stakeholder analysis of everyone being impacted by the change around how these changes will be impacting them, because you may need to put together a different approach for different stakeholders.
Once you do all this background work, you’ll be well set up for successful change management.
