Let your team in on the plan so they feel they are a vital piece of the puzzle.

Provide feedback on performance on areas they are excelling as well as areas of improvement.

Keep promises and follow through.

Create a productive work environment that is open and fun.

A journalist with Forbes.com, Karsten Strauss offers some similar advice as Peter. One that’s worth pointing out is his look at compensation and perks. In years gone by, many would assume this would be the ultimate driver. Research now highlights how wrong that was. Both compensation and perks, ‘tend to be less powerful motivators for workers than in-job challenges and the feeling of being a valuable part of a quality team that will recognize their contribution,’ according to Karsten.
