Examples of goals to level up your project management career
As a project manager, it’s important to constantly set new goals for yourself so that you can continuously improve.
When you focus on improvement, you become a better project manager, with lots of new opportunities.
Let’s talk about 5 professional goals you need to focus on as a project manager.
1. Improve your emotional intelligence
Emotional intelligence is about awareness of your own emotions and the emotions of others. Improving your emotional intelligence is a critical goal for any project manager because it’s really tied to having good communication skills.
Practice using your intuition and combining that with active listening to really understand what’s going on in every meeting and situation that you’re in.
Plus, pay attention to body language and non-verbal cues as a form of absorbing and understanding information about what’s happening around you.
When you can improve your emotional intelligence skills, you’ll really be set up for success as a project manager.
2. Develop your technical skills
I know you’re busy as a project manager, but it’s important to understand what’s happening technologically in the current day.
You don’t have to be an expert, but you do need to have some understanding.
What is out there that you need to learn from a technical standpoint? This will be slightly different for everyone, but it’s important to focus on.
Yes, you have your subject matter experts who know what they’re doing, but you need to have a high level view so you can effectively manage that project.
So, take note of where you have knowledge gaps from a technical standpoint and then determine what would be helpful to learn based on the industries that you work with.
