All the basics you need to know about FMEA
So, you’ve heard of FMEA and you’re wondering, what on earth is it?
To get us on the same page, FMEA stands for Failure Mode and Effects Analysis. But what does that actually mean, and when do you use it in business?
FMEA Background
FMEA comes from the manufacturing industry where it’s heavily used, and it can be helpful for anyone in projects to analyze potential risks.
FMEA is a tool to help you with risk management. There are many risk management tools out there and I personally like to use a risk mitigation planning tool, which is slightly different from FMEA which is a more spreadsheet-oriented approach.
The format you use to manage risks is going to depend on the risks you’ll be collecting and the information you need to analyze.
FMEA Format and Example
An FMEA is typically created in a spreadsheet because there’s lots of information that you need to collect.
First, you’ll want to do your risk analysis. The second part of FMEA is looking at corrective actions.
If you want a full breakdown and example of FMEA, head to my YouTube channel because I created a video showing you a full example there.
Meanwhile, if you really are committed to mastering your next project, do consider taking my SLAY Project Management online course where I show you step-by-step how to successfully manage a project, plus you get access to every template you will need, along with detailed video instructions on how to fill them out.
