All the basics on defining project success
Your main goal as a project manager is to ensure that you lead successful projects. But what does project success really mean?
It’s important to know what project success really means so that you can hit your goals on your project and ensure your project doesn’t fail. So, let’s talk about how to ensure you’re running a successful project.
In Scope
In order for a project to be successful, it needs to be in scope.
Project scope outlines your project deliverable and objectives in a SMART statement.
It defines the boundaries of your project, meaning, it outlines what is in scope versus what is out of scope. This summarizes exactly what you’re supposed to be delivering so that everyone is on the same page!
But how do you ensure that your project remains in scope so that you can have a successful project?
Ensure that there is no scope creep. Scope creep is when you start to add things to the scope throughout the project but you’re not vetting it through the proper systems to ensure that it aligns with project goals. When scope creep starts to happen, you risk project failure!
On Time
This is the next aspect you need to look at to ensure that you have a successful project.
Being on time with your project means you have to understand what your timeline is about and your scheduling.
Having a solid schedule is extremely important. When you’re starting out a project, you need to have an understanding of all the moving parts are and the timeline associated with them.
