Essential tactics for thriving through turbulence on your project
Dealing with conflict is not something anyone really likes to do. But as a project manager, it is something you need to know how to handle.
You do not have to solve every conflict on your own, but to keep your projects moving along smoothly, you need to know what to do when conflicts show up.
Here are some tips that will help with conflict resolution in your project teams:
Encourage open communication
As a project manager it’s your job to have great communication with your team. Setting this up from the very beginning – and then asking people for their input as you go – will help you resolve conflicts down the road.
How do you do this?
Start by setting up clear expectations from the start of your project and ensure you clearly communicate the vision and goals of your project.
A culture of openness will ensure that when conflicts do pop up, you can deal with them immediately because you’ve encouraged a tone of open communication from day one.
Understand the source
Before you can deal with a conflict within your project, you have to understand where it’s coming from.
Is it stemming from the overall activities of your project, or from a single person?
It’s important to distinguish this because the source of the conflict will determine how you’ll handle it.
