What makes me tick?
Beliefs are what make us tick. They dictate how we react or behave to any given situation. They act as a guiding light when situations are clear and also when they are murky, like a foggy morning. We may know that they guide us or we may not, but how we act and behave is definitely guided by our personal beliefs. I want to share with you my guiding beliefs that help me make decisions and most importantly, help me look at difficult situations in a different light. Perhaps you share some of these as well.
Adriana’s Top 5 Guiding Beliefs:
- Everything happens for a reason: I don’t believe in random occurrences. Everything that happens in our lives has purpose. That purpose is usually meant to teach us a lesson we need to learn in our lifetime. So if something goes off course, I always say, “All is good” and I wait to see how the situation unfolds and what I will learn from it, so I can grow. When you look at it from this perspective, it really is all good.
- When one door closes, one door of equal or greater value will open: This is a very strong belief of mine. I use this one for things that I want but don’t get. I look at it from a perspective of ‘everything happens for a reason’ and then I wait for the next opportunity. I am never disappointed because something better always shows up right around the corner. In fact, in hindsight, it was good that the thing that didn’t pan out didn’t happen because it allowed for something better to show up.
- The more you give the more you get: This is an interesting belief for people. You need to be careful with this one. What I mean about this is giving is amazing when you do it from a place of empowerment. When you constantly give away your power, thinking it’s for the greater good, the opposite reaction actually happens. So be very clear with who you are. Give to yourself the power of respect and knowing your boundaries. When you know your boundaries, then you can give away freely because it truly comes from the heart vs self-punishment.
- Listen to your gut: I believe strongly in my intuitive abilities. Intuition is a critical part in my decision making. You can read more about what it is and how to use it in my pocket book, Intuition at Work. We all have amazing instinctive abilities. Tune into it and you’ll be guided to great ideas and choices in life.
- Continuous improvement is forever: This goes back to my academic roots. I live in the world of improving productivity and efficiency. I have been trained that improvement is continuous. When improving processes, business or even yourself, always remember that you can always improve upon what you have. Like a layer of an onion, when you peel away (or fix) one thing, you will notice that there are more things underneath what you were just working on. This is a good thing. Fixing one thing always leads to fixing something else. Just accept that continuous improvement is forever and you will look at problems as opportunities. It’s like going to the next level in a video game. Have fun with it and learn from each challenge.
Do these resonate with you? Perhaps you’re practicing these beliefs and not even know it! I would love to hear from you and how you use your beliefs to guide you professionally and personally.
